From a 1968 Swartland winery of Pinotage farmed by Scholtz Rossouw, made by Jurgen Gouws of Intellego and bottled by David Clarke of wine company Ex Animo, this wine sees 90% of the fruit fermented entire bunch below semi-carbonic circumstances for 10 days and the opposite 10% of the fruit handled as a rosé and blended again after malolactic fermentation.
Cherry, crimson currant and a touch of pomegranate plus overtones of fynbos and white pepper on the nostril whereas the palate is seemingly mild (though not fully insubstantial given an alcohol of 13%) with snappy acidity and wonderful tannins. About as distant from Beyerskloof Diesel as you would probably get however nonetheless loads of flavour with an actual urgency about it – greatest served chilled. Worth: R175 a bottle.
