Located just a short drive southeast of Rome — lies the region of Castelli Romani or “Roman Castles” — an area made up of 17 towns that are scattered along the Alban Hills and historically known as the weekend getaway spot for the “rich and famous”.
From Roman emperors such as Nero and Titus to noblemen. To wealthy Roman families such as the Orsini and Chigi family. To the Pope whose summer residence in Castel Gondolfo overlooks Lake Albano.
This charmed area has seen it all… and continues to be enjoyed as a refuge for those wanting to escape the Capitol and surround themselves with what remains from ancient history.
Such as villas, grand palaces, gardens, ancient ruins including the world-renowned Tusculum Villas.
But the most important stop is the hillside town of “Frascati” that has lent its name to a wide selection of Frascati DOC white wines that can be enjoyed in a “timeless environment.”
To tell us more about the region and the health benefits of its delicate white wine is Roberto Rotelli from the Casale Mattia winery….
